About the role


We are looking for an experienced Training Co-ordinator to join an exciting Project based in Sydney, New South Wales. Reporting to the Project Workforce Development, Industry Participation (IP) & Aboriginal Participation (AP) Manager; this positions primary focus will be on the management of the projects’ compliance to the various statutory, regulatory and industry licensing and training requirements for all personnel engaged on the project. Additionally, this role will provide support to the Workforce Development Manager to ensure all compliance training requirements are planned, co-ordinated, and applicable funding is captured and reported in accordance with the Project Training Plan (PTP) and the Workforce Development & Industry Participation Plan (MR-W).


Key responsibilities

  • Work together with internal & external stakeholders to ensure compliance and reporting requirements are continuously communicated, monitored and adhered to in accordance with the Workforce Development & Industry Participation Plan.
  • Develop a Project Training Plan and associated tools such as a training matrix
  • Conduct training needs analysis and schedules; including the coordination of venues and resources.
  • Work closely with Safety administration to capture relevant safety training activity for reporting purposes.
  • Effectively communicating all training updates and information to employees.
  • Scheduling of Sydney Metro Industry Curriculum (SMIC)  & Sydney Metro Orientation Training (SMOT) inductions with TAFE NSW – Infrastructure Skills Centre (ISC) a
  • Assist with the identification of suitable Group Training Organisations (GTO) and Registered Training Organisation’s (RTO); including the identifying of training funding opportunities, track of training costs and oversee training budget and reporting; and focusing particularly on opportunities for Apprentice and Traineeships.
  • Set up of training databases and training registers as required to ensure that quality records are maintained at all times.
  • Develop register of preferred training providers to deliver against the project scope.
  • Work with Registered Training Organisation’s to obtain proof of training as required and check distribution of certification to participants following training programs
  • In conjunction with the Workforce Development, Industry Participation & Aboriginal Participation Manager ,work with Commercial to audit contractors compliance against the obligations set out in the Workforce Development & Industry Participation Plan
  • Communicate with relevant Registered Training Organisation’s industry stakeholders on funding, revisions and updates to required levels of competence for the activities undertaken including apprenticeships and trainees.
  • Liaise with managers to source suitable training identified in Performance Management Reviews (PDR’s)
  • Generate reports from Pegasus and review with the Workforce Development & Industry Participation Plan as required.
  • Compile monthly training report for inclusion into broader project monthly reporting
  • Evaluate quality of training programs (internal/external) as required
  • Roll out the commitments of the Project Training Plan and consulting with manager on changes to the PTP when required.
  • Create and maintain the training policies and procedures when necessary


The suitable candidate for the position will hold a Certificate IV Training & Assessing qualification along with a minimum 3 years experience having worked in Training Coordinator or similar roles in the Heavy Industry (ie. Rail, Construction, Resources). Your attention to detail and quality, along with an ability to prioritise and organise tasks in an efficient manner allows you to work well under pressure in a fast paced environment.


Your ability to analyse training data along with your excellent communication skills (both verbal and written) will allow you to effectively convey information in a way that is meaningful to non-training specialists. You will possess a high level of computer literacy skills, with a proficiency in the use of Microsoft office software, including Microsoft Word and Excel. You will also demonstrate a high level of interpersonal skills, allowing you to liaise effectively with key stakeholders to achieve required outcomes.


Having previous experience working in JV/Alliance environments delivering large infrastructure projects or similar and holding tertiary qualifications in Human Resources or similar is desirable.
