The Innovation Partnerships team recognises that this will require commercial innovation through orienting BHP’s internal organisation in new ways to engage with the broader innovation ecosystem in non-traditional ways for mining. This rapidly emerging team is seeking a high performing professional to assess and define the innovation ecosystem, determine business needs, contribute to engagement and positioning strategies and prime external partners. Ultimately, you will stimulate ecosystem development and foster strategic relationships on multiple fronts that will facilitate and accelerate partnership engagement and innovation delivery. Reporting to the Head of Innovation Partnerships, your key accountabilities will include:

  • Work in collaboration with other teams addressing partnering initiatives within BHP
  • Stakeholder engagement to map BHP internal innovation environment
  • Market research and analysis to map external innovation ecosystem including government proponents and policy and non-government entities and dynamics
  • Adopt and adapt partnering engagement models and knowledge from other industries into mining
  • Lead workshops to drive outcomes for the project
  • Develop and validate with stakeholders partnering engagement frameworks and guidance notes drawing on inputs from BHP strategic level documents and guidance
  • Provide support and context to frameworks and guidance through the development of use cases and draw on lessons learnt from established literature and previous BHP engagements
  • Develop and maintain external partner relationships

To be successful in this role, you will be a customer-centric communications and/or business development professional with the ability to passionately and clearly articulate future vision. Previous experience as an intermediary between highly technical and corporate teams would be highly regarded. You are likely to have a degree in Technology, Science, Engineering or similar discipline, and possess 5+ years post-qualification experience in a related field and an organisation of comparable breadth, depth and complexity. You will have superior interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills and the ability to influence, and navigation internal and external stakeholder groups at all levels.

As the preferred candidate, you will be a strategic problem solver, with the ability to quickly comprehend, structure and simplify complex business and organisational challenges, to lead their resolution. You have an inquisitive mind who seeks to understand the big picture to interpret business context, drivers, direction and capability needs. Experience with the implementation of business and operational information systems/technologies will be advantageous. You can demonstrate deep interest and knowledge in innovation, digital technology and its potential, as well as industry 4.0 concepts and best practice applications including decision automation. Familiarity with Design Thinking and Lean Start-up approaches will be highly regarded.
