About the opportunity The School of Information Technologies at the University of Sydney is embarking on an exciting growth journey, adding several new positions which will complement our core areas of strength pushing the frontiers to new research areas. As part of this plan, the School of Information Technologies(SIT) invites applications from outstanding candidates for a continuing Senior Lecturer or Associate Professor position (Level C or D) in Security starting immediately. The level of appointment will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
This is an attractive opportunity for candidates with an interest and passion for high quality excellent research and teaching. Strong candidates from all areas of computer security are sought. The ideal candidate will have a strong research background and evidence of substantial research output in one or more of the following areas of security: software security, network security or cloud security, theoretical foundations of security, usable security, quantum-based security, cryptography, blockchains, and application security. We are looking for team players who would help bring together current university efforts in cyber security targeting such areas as IoT and physical and cyber infrastructure.
Established as the first computer science department in Australia in the 1960s, theSchool of Information Technologies (SIT) at the University of Sydneyis research intensive and has a strong tradition of research-led teaching. SIT is one of the five schools in the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technologies and enjoys a strong reputation for research and teaching within Australia and worldwide. In the recent QS discipline rankings, computer science and information systems at the university was in the top 50 worldwide. In the 2015 Excellence in Research Australia (ERA) exercises, The University of Sydney was rated at 5 ("well above world-class standard", top score) in FOR code 08 (Information and Computing). The school is hometo four IEEE Fellows, four ACM Distinguished Scientists and seven Australian Research Council (ARC) fellows including one ARC Professorial Fellow and one ARC Future Fellow, editor-in-chiefs of prestigious journals, highly-cited authors, and distinguished members of professional associations. The school has a vibrant and successful PhD program with one hundred students enrolled. Five previous PhD graduates have won the national CORE thesis award for the best computer science dissertationin Australia and New Zealand. The school hosts a University Centre for Distributed and High Performance Computing that focuses on contemporary topics such as cloud computing infrastructures and green computing.The school has several school based centers and labs which include visualization, big data and data analytics, image processing for biomedical applications, HCI, sensor cloud services, and algorithmics.
The school offers undergraduate majors in computer science, information systems, software development and data science and combined programs with business, arts, science, medical science and law. SIT also offers highly regarded postgraduate coursework programs in information technology, information technology management, health technology innovation, and data science.
The school has close links with several research labs through its collaboration with Data61 (formerly National ICT Australia), Cooperative Research Centre for Capital Markets, among others. SIT also has strong connections with industry partners including IBM, CISCO, Accenture, PwC, HP, Google, Amazon, Microsoft and major Sydney hospitals.
About you To be successful, you will have a PhD in computer science, or a closely related discipline. You must show evidence of excellent research achievements in one of more areas of computer security and the ability to publish your research in highly-ranked outlets. A strong commitment to teaching and learning is required as well as evidence of ability to lecture and prepare new teaching material. You will be expected to teach a range of computer science and security related courses.

The position is full-time, subject to completion of a satisfactory probation and confirmation period for new appointees. The position is to be filled immediately. Membership of a University-approved superannuation scheme is a condition of appointment.
