The role

Reporting to Dr Ashley Tsacalos, we currently have an exciting opportunity for a Lawyer (3-5 years PQE) to join our Public Sector practice group in Sydney on a full time basis.

The work of our Public Sector team spans virtually all areas of government activity. Team members regularly assist with dispute resolution and litigation (including merits review and judicial review of government decisions, tort claims and commercial disputes) as well as the provision of advice on decision making and management of legal risks, statutory interpretation, regulatory matters, the conduct of compliance and enforcement activities, and in relation to information privacy and access to information. The team also does a range of royal commissions, inquiries and inquests - it is the leading royal commission and inquiry practice in Australia.

Key responsibilities

This busy and varied role will see you have the opportunity to:

  • Work on a broad range of high profile:

  • dispute resolution and litigation matters, as well as administrative law matters such as freedom of information and judicial review

  • royal commissions, inquiries and inquests

  • Represent clients including government departments and agencies as well as private sector bodies

  • Develop your client relationship skills through various client secondments

Skills & experience

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Between 3 and 5 years PQE
  • Proven experience in commercial litigation and/or administrative law
  • Strong academic record of achievement
  • Proven interest in the Australian governmental and political landscape
  • Strong team work and exemplary communication skills

In addition to this, we're looking for a resilient, self-starter. Someone who is able to work autonomously and is focused on attention to detail and providing an outstanding service to their clients.
