Joining our Facades team as Senior Façade Engineer, you will bring your technical leadership and mentoring skills to a well-established, social, and diversely skilled team, with members from around the globe. You will be a “hands on” and highly autonomous engineer with a passion for the built environment and will have delivered successful, integrated projects from inception through to completion. With an abundance of experience in the building/façade consulting and/or subcontracting industry, you will be a key member of the team that will contribute to the engineering and design on a range of high profile projects.
Our ideal candidate will hold recognised relevant tertiary qualification in Structural, Architectural, Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, with relevant industry experience as a structural or façade engineer.
You will be a Chartered Engineer (or working towards chartership) with Engineers Australia.
To be considered for the Senior Façade Engineer role, you will have:
> • Bachelor’s degree in Structural, Architectural, Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering with a minimum of 8+ years of related experience
> • Knowledge and application of key structural analytical tools such as Strand7, Spacegass/Microstran/Oasys GSA, SJ Meplar
> • Experience in how the engineering design of façade systems impacts the system design in terms of waterproofing and airtightness, and the architectural intent
> • Proven ability to effectively manage the successful delivery of projects, with experience leading small and medium façade projects from concept design to completion
> • Ability to independently undertake project analyses and high-quality reporting
> • A passion for technical consulting, including the ability to advise clients on cost-effective, sustainable solutions
> • Ability to mentor and assist in the development of staff in the façade team
Ability to communicate and develop high level and strategic relationships with colleagues, clients and industry peer groups is essential, along with effective written communication skills.
About the role
Working in the Building Group team in Melbourne, in this technical engineering and project delivery focused role, the Senior Façade Engineer will effectively manage the façade design advice, calculations, certifications, and other project related team coordination, ensuring quality performance of multidisciplinary projects. You will support the leadership team to lead and provide design/engineering input, ensuring work is maintained at the highest quality standard and projects are delivered successfully. You will be involved in preparing fee proposals and managing our proposals post-tender.
Responsibilities will include working collaboratively with clients, architects and other design professionals to resolve façade design and engineering issues. You will lead a holistic design approach to these multi-disciplinary projects.
You will also be responsible for contributing to the performance, work and development of junior engineering staff within the Façade team. You will provide guidance, training, motivational and directional feedback, along with assisting in the development of further structural analytics capabilities within in the facades team.
Externally, you will represent the Arup façade team in the market, developing client relationships and procuring work or assisting in bid and tender related BD activities. In addition, you will also liaise with other façade groups in the region, and contribute to active global facades skills networks.
