This includes the Newman Water Treatment Plant as well as a significant quantity of RO based potable infrastructure to service FIFO villages and mine operations. This infrastructure is growing and changing with our business. The Potable Water Operations Specialist is a key role to facilitate the ongoing operational efficiency of the potable water team by ensuring that all operational regulatory compliance and asset performance requirements are achieved and align to the scheme strategic asset management plan and regulations. There are several critical controls such as system capacity and asset condition forecasting that are essential in managing these risks. This role will primarily responsible for managing these controls. Reporting to the Water Superintendent, some of your duties will include:
  • Confirming water supply scheme operating plans are available, understood and followed by operations staff
  • Ensuring water supply quantity forecasting is in place for all schemes and is monitored and updated when needed to provide direction in asset planning and operational changes
  • Reviewing operational performance data for water treatment plant process steps and distribution systems to enable system optimisation and improvements (i.e. chemical dose rates, membrane selection, operating philosophy)
  • Certifying that site based material risk critical controls are in place for the three water maintenance execution teams (i.e. Confined Space, Hazardous Materials Management, classified plant, electrical bridging and PPE, lifting equipment, and Diving Records)
  • Ensuring all operational tactical and emergency response plans are reviewed, updated, and correctly focused to manage the potential operational events. This includes site based evacuation plans and dangerous goods management to align with the DMP’s legislative requirements
  • Confirms all operational critical control points align with the scheme’s drinking water quality management plan
Location
With this role you have the choice of either being residentially based in Newman on a 5:2 roster or FIFO from Perth to Newman on a 5:2 4:3 roster. You will be working at BHP office in Newman. The 7,000 strong population of Newman enjoys well-established town facilities including a newly revitalised town centre and sporting facilities. As a gateway to the Karijini national park, you will be in close proximity to spectacular gorges, water courses and stunningly unique landscapes.

To be successful for this role, you will possess the following:
  • Working knowledge of ADWG, ANCOLD, Water Scheme Operating Plans, Water Management Plans and Source Protection Plans
  • Sound understanding of the water utilities regulatory environment and requirements (DOH, DOW, DER)
  • Experience with coordinating and working with external regulators and stakeholders
  • Experience with water treatment plant processes, treatment technologies and optimization
  • Ability to work collaboratively with trade maintenance teams and coach were required
  • Experience with Waste Water desirable
  • Minimum of C class manual drivers licence
