As a New Start Designer, you will embark on a two year training scheme with the Learning and Development Team in order to develop the skills required to undertake positions as 'Designers' at the end of the programme upon successful completion. Training will also be delivered in the relevant CAD toolset.
This role will offer you career opportunities that will enable you to progress within the Engineering Function, with the prospect of further development within the Hull and Outfit Designer discipline, including Technical Qualifications, Technical NVQ Level 3 elements, alongside other bespoke technical and personal development.
Your main responsibilities as a New Start Designer will involve:
Developing and producing CAD models, drawings and other technical outputs consistent with contractual requirements to meet target dates and budget demands (delivered to time, quality and budget)
Operating and evolving your own skills within the functionality, using the appropriate toolset and techniques as directed by your supervisor
Communicating with stakeholders including other functions as directed by your supervisor
Performing self-verification of own tasks to ensure completeness and quality of information and to arrange checking of work by appropriate team members
Acting as a member of a technical team created to accomplish tasks of specialist nature (e.g. Construction Engineering Team, Best Practice Team, etc.)
Action any related tasks for which your supervisor perceives that you have the necessary skill and/or competency
Possessing a clear understanding of and apply the Quality and HS&E Management System documentation e.g. Process Instructions, Workmanship Standards, Risk Assessments etc. applicable to your particular work scope and to obey all HS&E rules and control measures
Your skills and qualifications:
- A time-served tradesperson with Submarine / Naval Shipbuilding build experience within the Hull and Outfit trades
- Extensive experience in the Hull / Outfit trades environment
- Significant breadth of submarine product knowledge
- A general understanding of the manufacturing, assembly, commissioning and testing processes used within the business
- Awareness of relevant Engineering Standards
- Minimum ND or equivalent qualification or qualified by experience
