The opportunity

We are looking for a highly capable Manager Operational Policy to be a part of our Regional and Freight Division at Roads and Maritime Services.

Reporting to the Senior Manager Network Management, the primary focus of this role will be to lead and manage a team to develop, deliver and implement a portfolio of operational policy initiatives and projects related to Heavy Vehicle National Law that supports the movement of freight and other restricted access vehicles in NSW.

You will liaise with internal and external stakeholders to develop operational policies that are evidentiary based; meet the needs of stakeholders; and meet all obligations under State and National legislation and strategic policy. Your ability to develop positive, professional relationships and provide customer focused service will be critical when engaging with and influencing various stakeholders.

The salary for this position is RMS USS 11 ($135,443 - $144,521), plus employer's contribution to superannuation and annual leave loading.

Essential requirements

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications or demonstrated relevant professional experience in public policy, public administration or related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading the development, implementation and management of large scale operational policies and in delivering complex strategic policy programs.
  • Proven experience in the interpretation and application of legislation and the compliance framework in a transport portfolio.
  • Strong experience in managing and conducting research and analysis of information and data and clearly communicating the findings through effective negotiation of complex policy development and implementation in a national regulatory environment.
  • Highly developed understanding of restricted access vehicles and the needs of the road freight industry
