Our Litigation and Dispute Resolution team

MinterEllison's Litigation and Dispute Resolution team has an outstanding track record in the strategic resolution of disputes throughout Australia and the Asia Pacific region and is recognised as a leader in dispute resolution. We act in some of the most complex and important litigation in the Australian market and have significant experience representing clients in high profile litigation, investigations by regulators including ASIC and other government inquiries.

High profile matters the team has been involved in include the Singapore Airlines air freight cartel class action, the Qantas A380 engine failure, proceedings under the New Uniform Defamation legislation, The Age newspaper defamation case, the Qantas fuel surcharge class action, the James Hardie ASIC civil penalty proceedings, the Aristocrat Leisure Limited class action and the Opes Prime collapse amongst others.

Our Legal Service Delivery team

MinterEllison’s Legal Service Delivery team is focussed on utilising people expertise, refined business processes and innovative digital platforms and automation to facilitate the delivery of our client-facing legal services across the business. This team works closely with our legal professionals and external service providers to ensure that we adopt practices that have a positive impact on our Firm’s profitability and also deliver a consistently high-quality experience to our clients. The Legal Service Delivery team combines a diverse range of skill sets and platforms requiring a seamless leadership structure to develop a suite of truly integrated solutions.

The role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Legal Service Manager to join the Disputes Resolution (DR) Business Unit in the Risk, Regulatory, Insurance and Controversy (RRIC) line of business. In this role, you will partner with our Legal Service Delivery team to implement strategies nationally across the DR business unit to continually improve the way we deliver legal services. The role will be expected to engage with partners and senior lawyers across the business unit to advocate the adoption of efficient practices and relevant digital platforms. The Legal Service Manager will help facilitate an approach to matter work that has the right positions performing the right tasks, allowing our senior lawyers to focus on higher value work and ultimately providing clients with a higher value deliverable.

The role will primarily be responsible for technology implementation within the DR business unit and the expert engagement of the Legal Service Delivery team and its partner providers that is most suited to the requirements of the matters and the work performed by the lawyers. In time, the scope of this role may broaden to include the entire RRIC line of business.

Other responsibilities include managing DR's:

  • workflows and best practice methodologies via the implementation and effective use of key technologies;
  • overall improvement of the team's legal service delivery processes;
  • identification and effective delivery of process improvement for clients;
  • precedents and key content management; and
  • driving innovation in legal service delivery.

The role will also liaise closely with the Head of Legal Service Delivery and partner with the Legal Service Delivery Team which will provide technology support, development and maintenance, client collaboration and legal project management support, and know-how support for document automation and precedent management.

This Legal Service Manager role will be the founding role that will form a broader legal service management community. It is envisaged that this role will work with like-minded individuals in equivalent roles across the other lines of business in the firm. This legal service management community will provide an integral mechanism to implement effective best practices across the firm, fundamentally changing how we deliver consistently high-quality services to our clients.

What you need              

This role would be best suited to an experienced lawyer who possesses a deep understanding of the legal processes used in disputes and contentious work. The role will require significant change management experience in order to ensure legal process implementations are strategically prioritised, structured and effectively delivered. You will be a passionate advocate for change and best practice in order to ensure legal process implementations are strategically prioritised, structured and effectively delivered. In addition, you will possess the following:

  • a strong understanding of legal or commercial transaction processes;
  • a passion for continuous improvement and commitment to delivering outcomes;
  • experience in and understanding of professional services environment, preferably legal;
  • strong stakeholder management ability, with a key focus on managing clients' interests, the firm's interests and internal stakeholder interests; and
  • the ability to translate and refine existing process to deliver improved legal service delivery outcomes and automated solutions.
