Legal Counsel

Reporting to General Counsel, this position is responsible for providing legal advice on issues relating to the effective operation of Mercy Health. Advice is required in areas that include health law and elder law, contract management, property issues, legal compliance, corporate governance, privacy and freedom of information.

This is a true generalist position that will suit applicants able to provide legal advice to, and represent the interests of, Mercy Health in a wide range of areas. Duties include reviewing and assisting in drafting and negotiating contracts, leases and other legal documents, assisting the Compliance Officer and Company Secretary in ensuring that compliance and corporate governance obligations are met and working with senior management to ensure corporate initiatives meet Mercy Health obligations. The position is part time 22-25 hours per week to be worked over 3 or 4 days per week.

• Tertiary qualification qualifications in law and hold a current practising certificate
• At least 5 years post-admission experience
• Experience in both NFP and Health environments
• An understanding of Catholic healthcare and ethics
• A high level of proficiency in both written and verbal communication
• Extensive experience in developing and nurturing productive relationships with key stakeholders
