Join our new South Flank expansionThe South Flank Project is an expansion of BHP's existing Mining Area C hub, located approximately 130 km by road north-west of the town of Newman. This project has potential to become one of the largest standalone iron ore processing centres in the world, within reach of several billion tonnes of high-grade ore. This is a rare opportunity for a dynamic individual to be part of something big – to work in an innovative team, with evolving technology, and playing a pivotal role in creating a world class mine.We are looking for an energetic HSE Superintendent to enable a team of HSE professionals to support the South Flank integrated project team (IPT) in the delivery of HSE management. The HSE Superintendent will actively support the IPT team during the planning and execution of the South Flank Project, and position the HSE team to provide robust coaching, monitoring, management and implementation of HSE systems, processes and programs. This role will also actively participate in the onsite review of South Flank Contractor HSE management plans, control verification and reporting.

You will partner with South Flank IPT to support the delivery of HSE ‘Back to Basics’ coaching quality of field leadership, significant event investigation quality and task-based risk management on the project. Field leadership will key tool used to upskill new IPT South Flank personnel as well as a core education tool with our contracting partners. In addition, you will support the deployment of improvement initiatives defined the Perth based HSE team to implement initiatives. You will have a good working knowledge of BHP HSE systems and processes and take ownership and accountability of the role.

Reporting to the Manager HSE, your other duties will include:

  • Provide environmental, health and safety support to deliver legal, manage impacts and enable growth
  • Team leadership, direction, and inspiration to direct reports by making decisions and taking actions
  • Work closely with construction teams to impart BHP systems and knowledge on South Flank project
  • Promote positive HSE outcomes in relation to contractor management and translation of systems in the field
  • Creates a learning environment for the effective delivery of required projects and improves the capability and capacity of the team
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with relevant regulators and key site and function managers
  • Provide HSE technical knowledge and support to achieve the project’s strategy
  • Leads the review and recommendations related to tenders for HSE contracts
  • Review key communications to be released to external authorities e.g. event notifications

As the successful candidate, you will possess:

  • Significant relevant industry experience required in HSE space
  • Major project experience
  • Tertiary Degree in relevant field
  • Leadership in achieving a strong safety culture
  • Demonstrated experience in establishing site HSE team, culture and processes
  • Influencing and coaching line management and direct reports
  • Strong background in risk management
  • Strategic thinking and problem solving
  • Budget and contract management
  • Application of HSE legislation
  • Leadership in the implementation of the HSE Management System
  • Demonstrated ability to reliably deliver team results and meet deadlines

  • Strong Understanding of State and Commonwealth environmental legislation

All rooms at the village have their own ensuite bathroom, television, refrigerator and air-conditioning.
