Job Description

The IBM Australia & New Zealand (ANZ) Communications Executive is responsible for leading external communications, including media, analyst, and influencer relations and social engagement, as well as employee and executive communications.

The role reports to the General Manager, IBM A/NZ and takes functional direction from the Vice President, Brand & Communications, IBM Asia Pacific.

The successful candidate must be experienced in operating in a complex, multi-stakeholder environment, and be comfortable collaborating with peers at a country, regional and global level. This is essential as the role is responsible driving the company’s communications strategy across all aspects of the IBM business in A/NZ.

Through the management of the external relations and internal communications functions, the A/NZ Communications executive is responsible for the protection and enhancement of the image of IBM.

Key responsibilities include:

Develops external communications strategies and relationships to support the overall business strategy.

Oversees the creation of compelling campaigns underpinned by corporate storytelling and aimed at influencing media and IT analysts, and driving positive impact with clients, business partners, industry bodies, governments, influencers, and alumni.

Possesses in-depth awareness and understanding of IBM's business strategy and offerings, and can speak with authority on these matters.

Defines crisis strategy and leads team and external contacts in managing communication in crisis, developing external communications deliverables and applying knowledge of communications media.

Ability to act as a spokesperson to IBM's publics and can communicate IBM's position and rationale in these matters convincingly.

Ability to undertake competitive positioning to ensure that IBM’s value proposition and competitive differentiators are clearly communicated.

Experience in how to leverage social and digital media within a business-to-business environment, including the use of paid amplification.

Connects all IBMers to the IBM Company through our corporate character, brand values and image.

Ability to drive organisational transformation programs and change communications to broad variety of employee segments, including sales, delivery, technical, and staff functions.

In collaboration with Human Resources, delivers a program of work aimed at driving employee engagement across the IBM workforce in India.

Strong track record engaging at a C-level within organisations, and offering strategic advice and counsel.

Demonstrates an applied understanding of audience segmentation and messaging development, multichannel communication program design, and content delivery through technology platforms and tools.

Anticipates, creates and defines innovative and visionary internal communications concepts, demonstrating how these can enhance program effectiveness and works to ensure their appropriate use.

Skills & Experience

Not less than 15 years experience in Communications.

Experience working with a multi-national corporation, either in an in-house capacity or with a Communications agency.

Experience in technology highly valued, although not essential. Industry experience in banking & finance, telecommunications, or working with start-ups will also be highly advantageous.

Five years operating at a senior leadership level, including people management.

Experience providing professional advice and counsel at senior executive levels.

Highly collaborative with the ability to lead a cross-functional team of senior-level professionals around strategic planning and communication program implementation.

Demonstrated ability drive an innovative approach to communications that focuses of high impact activities that clearly showcase IBM’s value proposition and competitive differentiators.

Possesses excellent communication skills including the ability to speak effectively to groups in formal and informal settings.

Possesses a comprehensive view and understanding of social media, and digital content and asset production.

Highly engaged with a visible passion and desire to make a difference is essential.
